Once law officers take a pledge to protect and serve, it doesn’t mean they only do it when they are on the job. It also made no mention of merely helping humans. When law officers wear their uniforms and commit to God and the people, that oath becomes part of their disposition.
Policemen Garibaldi is a remarkable example and living proof of this. Officer Garibaldi is a member of the Lakeland Police force in Florida, where he has been lauded as one of the department’s most formidable members. He was on his third day of carrying out 12-hour rotations when they captured his picture.
His photobomber was a boxer pit bull mix he saved from the pavements. Policemen Garibaldi hit the unfortunate canine with his squad car the evening before. Seeing that the puppy was just a couple of weeks old and without a collar, the caring officer went about the area, searching for his owner.
The search begins
Officer Garibaldi also shared a picture of the puppy on his Facebook page in anticipation of catching the owner’s eye. After several hours of looking for the owner, he returned to the station to get the dog some warmth and food. Officer Garibaldi let the puppy stay at the station while he continued working.
The loving officer hoped the pups’ owners would contact him, but no one called. So, despite being dog-tired, he drove the puppy to the SPCA Florida Medical Center so the veterinarians could check on its condition.
The police officers fell asleep in the waiting area for the physicians to complete what they were doing. One of the facility managers, Connie Johnson, decided to take a snapshot of the pair when they were both sleeping. Connie had no idea that the image she took would become viral when she shared it online.
It was good that she shared the image because someone adopted the puppy the next day. It looks like Officer Garibaldi’s efforts paid off.
