A UPS driver from Montana was on his route making deliveries when he stopped to risk his own life to save a poor canine that fell through the ice of a frozen lake
Ryan Arens is an avid animal lover. After seeing the dog in trouble, it was natural for him to go immediately to the dog to see if he could help.
Driver Goes out on Lake
As he approached, He saw the dog trapped about 10-15 feet from the shore, surrounded by ice. There was a man in the area in a rowboat, struggling to reach the dog. He was working with breaking ice and wasn’t making any headway in his attempt to get the dog.
Ryan decided to attempt to rescue the dog on his own by borrowing the man’s boat. After getting the stranger’s permission to borrow his craft, he proceeded into the icy water to go where the dog was.
As Ryan approached the struggling dog, he also fell into the frozen lake. He immediately swam towards the dog as fast as he could. Once rescued, Ryan and the dog made their way back to shore. A bystander waited for the two with a blanket in hand. `
Back on Shore
Getting the dog warm and slowly getting his body temperature back to normal was a high priority. Through Ryan’s efforts, the dog returned to normal after a few stressful minutes.
What’s unbelievable about this rescue is that even though he almost froze to death, Ryan returned to his route and delivered about 20 more packages before returning home for the night!
A few weeks later, Ryan met up again with the dog he saved when he delivered a package to the dog’s owner. When he walked up to the home, he recognized Sadie (the dog) right away! Ryan was surprised that the dog remembered him.
