Fur dad Sebastian Bernal was chilling on his porch in Portland, Oregon, last November 15, watching his two dogs, Kobe and Rüfüs, play in the yard. A few moments later, one of the pups managed to nudge their gate open, and the next thing Sebastian knew, he was running after the two naughty dogs.
He chased them for around three miles, but they were just too fast for him. Realizing that he wouldn’t be able to catch up to them, Sebastian decided to head home and search for them the next morning with his girlfriend, Annie Pippert.
That day, they thankfully managed to track down one of the dogs, Kobe. However, Rüfüs, the corgi, was still nowhere to be found. The couple thought that the canine might still be around the same neighborhood where Kobe was, so they decided to ask around and eventually ended up in a nearby vet clinic.
When they asked the staff if they had seen a corgi by any chance, they confirmed that the pup was brought into the clinic by two women that same morning. The ladies were checking whether he was microchipped. But after finding out that he wasn’t, the staff advised them to drop the canine off at a shelter.
Sebastian and Annie were relieved to learn that their search was narrowed down to the shelters. However, after checking each one in the area, they discovered that Rüfüs wasn’t in a shelter at all. That was when they took to social media to get help in finding their missing corgi.
For three straight days, Sebastian and Annie kept posting and sharing photos of the pup on Instagram and even asked several friends to spread the word across all social media platforms. They also acquired and shared the clinic’s surveillance video of the two women who found Rüfüs, hoping that someone might recognize them.
After several days, Sebastian finally received a call from one of the women, confirming that she had the corgi. She realized that he was a lost dog after seeing a social media post with her face on it. The woman was very willing to return the pup, but the problem was that she was in Los Angeles!
As it turned out, she was only visiting a friend in Portland when they happened upon Rüfüs. She decided to bring him home to California as she was afraid that the corgi might just be euthanized at the shelter. But Rüfüs was very much well in her care.
After learning this, Sebastian immediately booked a flight to LA and reunited with the adorable dog. Watch Rüfüs’ lost dog journey here.
