Medical alert dogs are lovely beings. They are highly skilled dogs which are trained to warn their owners about their threatening health condition. These dogs will act weird when they sense that their owners would have an asthma trigger, heart attack, and sugar level drops among others. These dogs can also be trained to smell cancer tumors. Medical alert dogs are indeed lifesavers.
One medical alert dog has impressed his owners when he sent signals that his human will have a severe health condition even if she is five miles away from home.
Hero is a Labrador retriever who is Sadie’s medical alert dog. Sadie is a four-year-old kid with Down Syndrome and suffering from Type 1 Diabetes. Sadie cannot communicate what she feels very well; this is the reason why Sadie needs a service dog. Hero’s job is to keep Sadie’s blood sugar within the normal range.
Hero can detect irregularities on Sadie’s blood sugar way ahead of the gadgets her family uses to monitor her insulin levels. Hero would give his paw on Sadie’s mom’s left hand if Sadie has a low blood sugar level, and Hero would give his paw on her right hand if the little girl’s blood sugar level is high.
Hero did the most incredible thing when he alerted Sadie’s mom that Sadie’s blood sugar level is low while she was in school.
One day, Sadie’s parents checked her blood sugar before she went to school. The blood sugar monitor gave a healthy report in the morning, but in the afternoon, Hero started to act strangely.
Hero didn’t stop alerting Michelle, Sadie’s mom, that Sadie’s blood sugar is low. Michelle then contacted Sadie’s teacher to check her blood sugar. Sadie’s teacher said that Sadie’s blood sugar is within normal levels, but after 30 minutes, it dropped to a seriously low level.
It has been proven that dogs can smell up to two miles, but Hero sensing Sadie five miles away is truly mind-blowing.
Experts cannot even explain how Hero can tell if Sadie is in trouble from miles away.
For Sadie’s family, Hero is heaven-sent.
