Shell the dog found herself at the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, an organization that helps rescue strays and finds them loving homes. The dog was surrendered to the group along with a really sad handwritten letter from its deceased owner.
After the shelter posted the handwritten letter from Shell’s deceased owner, the story became viral on the Internet. The shelter also vowed to honor the owner by ensuring that Shell finds a new home where the dog would be cared for by its new owners.
To tell people about the dog, the shelter made a Facebook post where they described Shell as a dog that was heartbroken. They also appealed to any person who wanted to take the poor dog under their care.
The shelter also shared that the letter that they received was a suicide note from the owner. It was addressed to the team at Stray Rescue and requested that they take in Shell. According to the letter, the owner’s mother adopted the dog from the organization back in 2009 or 2010. However, the mother became stricken with Alzheimer’s, so her daughter had to care for the animal.
However, Shell’s most recent owner has been diagnosed with cancer and has been battling it for several months. The arrival of Shell with the letter meant only one thing: the owner had passed away. The owner’s cancer diagnosis motivated her to write the letter to the facility so that the dog will be cared for even after she has passed away.
Shell’s owner was discovered lifeless in her apartment shortly after the dog was brought to the shelter. Stray Rescue ensured that her requests were met.
There were many applications that the shelter received from people who wanted to adopt Shell. After reviewing dozens of applications in less than a week, Shell was handed to her new owner. That person was the perfect owner for Shell, and they live happily together now.
In a Facebook post, Stray Rescue announced that Shell has been adopted by a woman who recently lost her own dog, Trenton. The shelter also emphasized their fulfillment of the dying wishes of the dog’s original owner and found the perfect match for the animal.
